Description 

A tufted grass with stems 40–120 cm tall, sometimes with a bulbous, dense and fibrous base. Leaves linear or thread-like. A loose or dense oblong panicle with erect branches and hairy spikelets (Martinez et al., 2020).

Distribution 

Native grass found in savannas from Mexico to Argentina. It usually grows in copses with well-drained soil and on the edges of these, but it is not particularly abundant (Martinez et al., 2020).
